Industry Leaders Call For More Donations

Leaders of three juvenile product companies met in New York on August 6th to discuss strategies for increasing donations of new merchandise to alleviate conditions of poverty among children in the United States. The company leaders, Jason Rabin, President of Kids Headquarters, Richard Sutton, President of LTBrands, and Sam Haddad, President of Haddad Brands, also urged their peers to donate excess inventory to Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. (K.I.D.S.) to help impoverished families.

Current donation needs include apparel and other new items for low-income families, children of the poor and the working poor, especially as the economy remains sluggish. Last year, K.I.D.S. distributed $62 million worth of newmerchandise to more than 4.5 million individuals.

The year’s campaign includes a focus on selecting and using safe car seats and child restraints.

JPMA will also support Child Passenger Safety Week (September 21-27) to remind parents to use a child safety seat in the back of their vehicles and restrain their child properly and in accordance with their size and age. Additionally, National Seat Check Saturday takes place on September 20th to educate parents and ensure that all child seats are installed properly.
