Breaking News: New Ownership Of Boston Gift Show
George Little Management, a dmg world media business,
has announced the acquisition of the Boston Gift Show by Urban Expositions,
effective immediately. The next edition of the show will run March
28-31, 2009, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
Urban Expositions owns, manages and produces trade
events for the gift, souvenir, resort merchandise, fabric, sourcing,
textiles and sewn products technology industries. The Boston Gift
Show will expand Urban Expositions’ roster of regional gift
shows, which currently serves markets in Florida, Maryland, Nevada,
Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.

JPMA Reaffirms Commitment Of Safety
The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) has reaffirmed its pledge to safety by issuing The Declaration of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association. The creed expresses the commitment to working within the industry to ensure the safety of the infants and children whose caregivers have entrusted JPMA and its members with the creation of safe and useful products. To further this commitment, JPMA’s mission statement has been enhanced to better represent what JPMA means to members and the entire industry.

CBK Introduces Build-A-Bear Home Décor
CBK, a wholesaler of home décor, gifts, and accessories, has partnered with Build-A-Bear Workshop to launch a new line of children’s accessories slated for release September 1st. The exclusive line of children’s home accessories features Build-A-Bear Workshop themes and characters including a child-size bear-paw table and two chairs. Bear-paw rugs are available in a boy or girl theme, along with a paw clock, paw print wall hooks and a bear head rug. The pieces are available in boy, girl and unisex color schemes.

Pediped Obtains Court Order Against Jack And Lily
pediped footwear has filed a lawsuit against Jack and Lily and its owner Robert Buell after several customers alerted pediped that Jack and Lily allegedly introduced a similar line called My Shoes. A New York Federal Court issued a ruling preliminarily prohibiting Jack and Lily, and its Owner and President Robert Buell, from selling the My Shoes line. Further, the Court’s order prohibits Jack and Lily from manufacturing, advertising, offering for sale, selling, distributing, marketing, transporting, delivering or in any way attempting to sell the My Shoes line.

AmericasMart Opens Men’s Showrooms, Welcomes LACOSTE
For the first time, Atlanta’s AmericasMart is opening the men’s permanent showrooms on the 12th Floor during the Atlanta Apparel Market, August 16-19. LACOSTE will join the menswear offerings with its new 1,100-square-foot space showcasing men’s, women’s and children’s collections. AmericasMart will celebrate LACOSTE’s grand opening and 75th Anniversary with a ribbon cutting and cocktail event on Sunday, August 17, at 5 p.m.

Philadelphia Gift Show Returns To City’s Suburbs
Urban Expositions has announced that the semi-annual Philadelphia Gift Show will return to the new Greater Philadelphia Expo Center beginning with the January 17-20, 2009 edition. The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center replaces the former Fort Washington Expo Center where the show had a 10-year run before the facility closed in 2006. The show has been held at the Greater Reading Expo Center in Reading, Pennsylvania, for the past two years. The venue offers free on-site parking, shuttle service to hotels and a convenient airport location.

Delta Introduces Activity Center
Delta Children’s Products, a designer and manufacturer of juvenile and toddler furniture, has introduced Swaptop, an all-in-one activity center. The Swaptop transforms from a colorful children’s desk into a play center available in two different styles: Kitchen Swaptop and Tool Workshop Swaptop. The item will be available in Fall 2008.
Brian Yanish Designs Licenses The Scrap Kins
Brian Yanish Designs has signed a licensing deal with New York-based stationery and paper goods manufacturer Aljan Corporation to develop a recycled paper stationery line using characters and artwork from The Scrap Kins. Under its Fine Line Stationery and Accessories line, Aljan will produce a line of Scrap Kins Back-To-School recycled paper goods, including portfolios, theme books, pads, journals, lunch kits and specialty items. Inspired by owner Brian Yanish’s childhood drawings, The Scrap Kins are a group of creatures who live in a recycling center and build a world out of discarded material.

Maclaren Opens First Showroom In Japan
Nomura Premium Brands, parenting brand Maclaren’s Japanese partner, opened the first Maclaren showroom in Japan in mid-July. More than 100 guests toasted the opening with representatives from Maclaren, Nomura Premium Brands, and the design community. Guests were treated to champagne, hors d’oeuvres, and custom-designed Maclaren chocolates and gifts.
Located at 2-23-9 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku, the showroom is surrounded by upscale boutiques and restaurants including Christian Dior, Cartier and Comme de Garcons. Uichi Yamamoto, a Tokyo restaurateur and producer, developed the concept of the Maclaren showroom, and the interior was created by Ichiro Katami.
